Infrastructure Thought Leaders Series: Non-Combustible Facades

We heard from world-renowned industry experts about the design of non-combustible facades.

Our keynote speaker, Cathy Inglis, has worked for Brickworks for over 24 years and has been pivotal in the development of some of Australia’s leading façade systems. A highly respected authority on various building products and systems, Cathy has a Bachelor of Materials Science and a Master of Science, and is also National Director at the Housing Industry Association, representing the industry on several Australian Standard Committees.

Cathy offered an overview of regulations related to non-combustible façade, the impact these have on design, and explained some of the notable façade systems which she has helped to develop.

Cathy Inglis General Manager Technical and Innovation, Brickworks Building Products

Cathy is the General Manager of Technical and Innovation at Brickworks Building Products.

She has a Bachelor of Materials Science and a Master’s of Science is a specialist in her field and has worked at Brickworks for 24years in key leadership roles in management and business development Brickworks Building Products is one of Australia’s largest and most diverse building material manufacturers and supplies some of Australia’s best-known building materials brands for bricks, precast, masonry, roof tiles and lightweight façade products.

Cathy is responsible nationally for the research and development of new products, technical matters and leading innovation to improve energy efficiency of operations and to create sustainable building products. Cathy is on the National Board of the Housing Industry Association and represents the industry on several Australian Standard Committees.
Blair Stratton
Blair Stratton Manager, Major Projects, RED Fire Engineers

Blair Stratton is a founding partner and Manager of Major Projects for RED Fire Engineers.

He has over 14 years' experience as a fire safety engineer in Australia and New Zealand and has lead the fire engineering design for significant infrastructure and building projects -including the Victorian desalination plant, and the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery redevelopment. Blair has spent much of the past five years reviewing issues relating to combustible facades. He has developed risk assessment techniques that have assisted owners, builders and regulators to understand and manage facade fire risks. Blair was the inaugural Chair of Engineers Australia’s Victorian College of Leadership and Management, and is currently co-chair of the Victorian Society of Fire Safety. Blair recently became a Fellow of Engineers Australia.
