Doasis
With warm timbers and immaculate linework, this home’s contemporary fusion of mid-century modern and coastal design fosters permanency within its surrounding coastal landscape. Using our House Styles Guide with Style Sourcebook to bring Brickworks’ mood boards to life for the first time, Solis Estudio and SMUB create a classic and natural materiality that extends its longevity, making it a home for generations.
Just off Queensland’s vibrant Tallebudgera Creek, the location informs every aspect of this coastal home. Blending the organic forms of mid-century design with a Palm Springs resort tenor, the cladded plaster finish across the home’s façade embeds the project within the surrounding landscape. Combining natural stones with clean-cut wooden elements gives Doasis visual appeal from every angle. Each form pairs seamlessly with the others, resulting in a final product that is crisp, complex and unique.
Continuing through to the interiors, with ample indoor-outdoor flow, the palette responds to its coastal context. Open-floor living leaves the home feeling spacious and free-flowing, foregrounding the impact of sculptural furniture, lighting and art pieces. With three-metre-high ceilings, the interiors allow for future reimaginings of the open-floor space, keeping the home interchangeable and timeless.
The multi-tonal materiality of this project creates unexpected textural complexity despite its natural guise. Using masonry across the exteriors asserts the home within its environment while protecting it from the occasionally harsh conditions of Queensland’s coast.
Warm and bright neutral tones create a relaxing atmosphere with bold detailing that enhances rather than draws attention from the rest of the palette. La Paloma bricks in Miro from Austral Bricks line the home, perpetuating order while supporting the stylish aesthetic of the finished home.
Through the collaboration of design maestros Solis Estudio and SMUB with Style Sourcebook’s Brickworks mood board, Doasis presents an innovative blend of retro and contemporary styles, achieved through its intricate yet natural materiality and longevity.
