About Austin Maynard Architects
Austin Maynard Architects (AM.A) are known for spaces that put wellbeing, joy, and optimism at the centre of the design – what the team have coined the ‘architecture of enthusiasm’.
Brickworks is honoured to host this practice for this inDETAIL event, with Founder and Director Andrew Maynard joining us to share insights into their award-winning work.
Established in 2002, the practice has a decorated history of bespoke residential homes across Australia that reflect a diverse and imaginative client base. In recent years, Austin Maynard Architects have applied their expertise to multi-residential projects and emerged as leaders in design-led housing with a conscience.
Working across single and multi-residential, retail and commercial projects, the team are highly-awarded innovators in joyful, sustainable architecture.
Named Architecture Studio of the Year by Dezeen and Small Firm of The Year by Archello, Austin Maynard Architects create resilient, highly sustainable, beautiful, robust and long lasting architecture. Architecture designed to meet the challenges of the climate crisis. Austin Maynard Architects are recipients of the prestigious Canberra Medallion. Past recipients of the Canberra Medallion have been The National Gallery of Australia, The Australian High Court, The National Portraiture Gallery, Parliament House and the Australian Academy of Science.

Since establishing his practice in 2002, Andrew has focused on a clear mission: turning complex spatial challenges into engaging, sustainable architecture. Driven by the belief that design must serve a broader social purpose, he has become a leading voice in rethinking how we live together. Rather than relying on traditional developer models, Andrew has championed cost-effective, ecologically sound, and community-focused housing—pioneering this approach through milestone multi-residential projects like Terrace House and ParkLife.
His work has been exhibited around the world and recognised with numerous national and international awards.
Beyond his built work, Andrew is passionate about making architecture accessible to everyone. As one half of the celebrated duo Archimarathon, he hosts educational videos that communicate complex design concepts to a following of almost one million people.
A dedicated advocate for social equity and environmental responsibility, Andrew continues to challenge how we think about the future of our built environment.
