Find your style with us – Brickworks x Style Sourcebook

Our House Styles Guide takes the guesswork out of selecting the perfect colour and material palette for your house and provides inspiration to kick start designing the house of your dreams.

Whether you’re currently in the process of building a new home or you’re considering building, we understand that knowing where to start when it comes to deciding on your overall house style can be quite a daunting process. Anyone who has ever built a house can relate to the fact that choosing your building materials and colour palette can often be the hardest part of the build journey. From the endless choices of bricks and facade materials to deciding what overall style and look you’d like your house to entail, it’s safe to say that the sheer number of choices can become overwhelming. With that being said, having a home that reflects your own personal style from the inside out is crucial and makes all the hard and tireless decisions worth it.

We have teamed up with Style Sourcebook to help you find your style with us. Our House Styles Guide takes the guesswork out of selecting the perfect colour and material palette for your house and provides inspiration to kick start designing the house of your dreams. If you want to know for sure, take our House Styles Quiz to determine which house style you are, then head to Style Sourcebook to create a mood board for your dream facade. All our products are on Style Sourcebook to help you match up your bricks, roof tiles, feature cladding and landscaping materials with your ideal colours, feature pieces and overall interior of your home.

Defining your own personal house style and planning your facade is just as important and deserves the same, if not more focus, as the interior of your home, as it really is what sets the tone for your whole house. A good starting point for identifying this is to find 10-15 exterior and interior images that you are drawn to. Then, find the commonality between those images. This could be a repetitive colour, texture or general style that will become the blueprint for defining your aesthetic and discovering your design DNA.

Below, we explore our most loved house styles in more detail and give you the run-down on the main elements in each and how you can achieve the look in your very own home.

Classic Hamptons

Builder - Beachwood Homes, Photographer - Urban Angles

Classic in its architecture and timeless in its aesthetic, Hamptons style crosses the thresholds of coastal and traditional, modern and minimalist, with a touch of glamour. A neutral palette dotted with accents of ocean-inspired hues, warming hints of timber and an abundance of natural light are all at the core of this timeless decorating style. Stylist and tastemaker Steve Cordony gave us a hot tip on achieving this look “Recreate this enduring style with a palette of neutral textures and clean lines. For a contemporary update, embrace mixed-materiality that both complements and contrasts with the strongest exterior elements.”

Our Neutrals colour palette is perfect for executing a Classic Hamptons house style. Popular products to achieve this look are:

Concrete Roof Tile – Bristile Roofing – Light Collection (Classic) in Linen

Brick – Austral Bricks – Hamptons in Whitehaven

Feature Stone – Austral Bricks – Landmark Stone in San Moritz Fieldstone

Palm Springs Modern

Builder - Webb and Brown-Neaves, Photographer - D-Max Photography

The iconic calling card of this classic mid-century favourite easily lends itself to the Australian modernist aesthetic. Breeze Blocks and statement brickwork invite a subdued palette of mixed materials, clean lines and playful glamour, with pops of bright colour providing a balance of fun and functionality.

Our Earth colour palette was made for the Palm Springs Modern house style. Popular products to achieve this look are:

Terracotta Roof Tile – Bristile Roofing – Curvado in Roja

Industrial Urban

Architect - Jackson Clements Burrows, Photographer - Derek Swalwell

While its origins can be traced back to the factory floor, the residential form of this look is about imperfections and raw, textural finishes. Brickwork provides a coarse, textural feature while balancing smooth and intricate detailing with softer finishes provides the play on materiality central to an industrial aesthetic.

Our Raven colour palette is perfectly suited to the Industrial Urban house style. Popular products to achieve this look are:

Brick – Austral Bricks – Wilderness in Blackbutt

Brick – Austral Bricks – Venetian Glass (Natural) in Arctic Crystal

Paving – UrbanStone – Opulence in Ash

Create a feeling of warmth with textured surfaces in complementary tones for a pleasing palette that enhances that casual vacation feel.

Our Nero colour palette is the perfect bold statement for the Box Modern house style. Popular products to achieve this look are:

Architect - Benn and Penna Architects, Photographer - Tom Ferguson

Arguably one of the most enduring interior design styles of all time, the focus on combining beauty and elegance with pastoral, country-style features is paramount to recreating this look and feel for contemporary living. Ornate carvings, mouldings and simple textures by way of soft brickwork, porcelain tiles and natural stone create a rustic sophistication.

Our Blanco colour palette is the perfect bold statement for the French Provincial house style. Popular products to achieve this look are:

Terracotta Roof Tile – Bristile Roofing – Planum in Ghost White
