Best Commercial Spaces 2024

Rounding up 2024 with our favourite commercial spaces to launch this year.

2024 has been a year of openings for many commercial venues across Australia. From first time launches to sister venues or remodels, the use of materials to transform a commercial space has led to immaculate design concepts that transport the audience and create a sense of welcoming and belonging.

Olympus, Surry Hills

Situated in the new Surry Hills Village Development, Olympus draws on the existing raw bricks from the exterior of the perimeter to bring life and warmth into the space. As a sister venue to Apollo located in Potts Point, Olympus has taken a new elevated direction with the new Greek Venue. The rectangle oculus roof allows for natural daylight throughout the venue, brightening the space and transporting guests to the coast of Greece. It also injects a mountainous feel to the venue, creating synergy to the proclaimed name ‘Olympus’, being the home of the gods.

Henne, Fiveways

With their grand opening in June 2024, Henne unveiled its second store located in Paddington Sydney allowing Sydney shoppers the unique experience of visiting Henne instore at the Five Ways location. Designed by renowned Brahman Perera, the project imbues sculptural tactiality, with graphic detailing that meets soft femininity in the curated space. Like many of Perera’s retail projects, he forms his designs as if they were a stage set with the apparel being the main character. Functioning as a showroom, the store follows an open model, prioritising foot traffic over garment display.  Hidden storage serves to not take away from the design of the space.

Sea Sea, Crescent Head

The latest addition to NSW Mid North Coastal town of Crescent Head, the Sea Sea Hotel sets a new standard for boutique getaways. Opening its doors in early November 2024, the hotel has been revamped with an Aussie surf culture twist. Complementing its surrounding coastal environment, the space features warm wooden rooms and exposed brick. With a vintage coastal elegance straight from the surf culture of the 70s, the 25 room hotel also includes a surf club for guests, hosting live music and art exhibitions from local and international talent.

Saint Peter, Grand National Paddington

Newly reopened Saint Peter by renowned chef, Josh Niland, makes it home in the refurbished Grand National Hotel located in Paddington. Given the heritage design area of Paddington, the facade of the venue remains unchanged, bar a fresh lick of pain. The inside of the terrace style corner dwelling has seen a full facelift. The warm wood grain decor throughout the space plays homage to the previous fit out, with nods to the heritage of the previously corner pub. Reflecting the farm to table style of this fish butchery, Studio Aquilo chose a tonal colour palette with fishbone tiled walls and soft molluscs shaped bouquets.
