Tosin Oshinowo in Conversation – Sydney
We are pleased to announce the first-ever visit by celebrated Nigerian architect Tosin Oshinowo to Sydney for one speaking event only on 28 May at Brickworks Sydney Design Studio.
Oshinowo is a champion for the ingenuity and innovation of the global south, born out of conditions of scarcity and constraint. She believes that while our present reality is marked by pandemic, violent conflicts, and the looming threat of climate change-induced environmental disasters, we can be optimistic about the creative possibilities that arise within these constraints.
Recently named one of the 50 most powerful women in architecture and design in 2024 by Dezeen, Tosin Oshinowo is a Lagos-based architect renowned for her socially responsive approach to commercial, cultural and civic architecture in a rapidly urbanising continent. Her practice expands to curating and writing, which extensively covers Afro-modernism and identity, which includes a notable contribution to the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale.
Tosin Oshinowo is visiting Australia with the support of the NGV and the Robin Boyd Foundation and is in Sydney thanks to the Architecture Foundation Australia.
