COX’s Adelaide Studio is a showcase of craft, community, and wellness. Nestled in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD, it is a space crafted by designers for designers. Having won a number of awards including the 2024 Robert Dickson Award for Interior Architecture and the Interior Architecture Award at the National Architecture Awards 2024, the studio is a testament to an era of workplaces that are both functional and inspirational.

Designed with a deep commitment to fostering a connected community, the project features flexible and adaptable spaces that encourage collaboration as well as moments for individual reflection. “At COX, we believe in the power of community and collaboration. Our space [...] is a testament to these values, offering a vibrant environment where creativity thrives,” explains COX Director, Zoe King.

“Utilising Brickworks’ Bowral 76 Chillingham White bricks, there is minimal need to replace and repair bricks, reducing the embodied emissions over the life of the studio.”

A truly inviting space, the studio welcomes the wider South Australian design community to contribute their diverse perspectives and ideas. The work of local artisans such as the late Khai Liew, Remmington Matters, Emma Sadie Thompson, and Phoebe Kretschmer, are seen throughout the space. Local Kaurna names for each room and a five-metre piece of art that represents COX’s RAP commitment, were introduced through a collaboration with Aboriginal elder, Rosalind Coleman, and Kaurna artist, Tony Wilson. COX employees also actively participated in the design process, ensuring that the space seamlessly integrated with the company’s culture, values, and traditions.

Striving to do more with less, COX carefully curated materials. Brick, cork, FSC local timbers, and natural fibres were employed for a more sustainable approach. Utilising Brickworks’ Bowral 76 Chillingham White bricks, there is minimal need to replace and repair bricks, reducing the embodied emissions over the life of the studio. Bricks are also recyclable, offering a superior lifecycle to other, less resilient building materials. Brickworks’ 100-year guarantee on clay bricks is a testament to the longevity of bricks as a resilient and sustainable building material. A distinctive dry pressed brick, the Bowral 76 introduces a unique granular patina and tactile aesthetic with sharp edges and an inherent character. To reduce waste, furniture from the previous fit-out was also recycled and reused.
