About March Studio
March Studio is a Melbourne-based architecture and design practice established in 2007. Working across retail, hospitality, residential, cultural and civic projects, the studio has developed a reputation for combining architecture with making, fabrication and material experimentation.
Brickworks is honoured to host the practice for this inDETAIL event, with Founding Director Rodney Eggleston joining us to share insights into their award-winning work.
The practice approaches architecture as an experience unfolding through movement, atmosphere and occupation rather than as a static object. Through an in-house workshop and a culture of prototyping, March Studio regularly tests ideas through making, collaborating closely with builders, manufacturers and craftspeople throughout the design process.
The studio's work has been recognised nationally and internationally through numerous awards and publications, including projects for Aesop, Hotel Hotel and Industry Beans, alongside a broad range of commercial, residential and cultural commissions across Australia and abroad.

Rodney Eggleston is the founding Director of March Studio. Over the past two decades he has led the studio's work while contributing to architectural culture through teaching, lectures, exhibitions and writing.
His work explores the relationship between design, making and practice, with a particular interest in how technology, fabrication and changing economic models are reshaping the role of the contemporary architect. He is an advocate for a hands-on and agile model of practice that places experimentation, collaboration and material intelligence at the centre of the design process.
In 2019, Eggleston received both the Victorian and National Australian Institute of Architects Emerging Architect Prize.
