Coastal living has always been synonymous with serenity, connection, and effortless style, but when architecture and the natural land and seascapes live in harmony, the result can be transformative. Across Australia’s most picturesque locations, these homes redefine what it means to live by the water. At the heart of these spaces, brickwork emerges not just as a building element, but as a statement of enduring beauty and sophistication.

01

Little Manly House

As stunning as the beach that lends its name, the Little Manly House embraces the natural slope of its site. Three staggered tiers create a sculptural composition that feels dynamic and yet deeply connected to the terrain. Designed by architectural powerhouse CHROFI, the mid-century inspired design unfolds across levels, opening out into terraces that frame sweeping views, create inviting outdoor spaces and establish a seamless link to the lush greenery beyond. Calm, grounded and effortlessly coastal, the use of the long form brick from Austral Bricks San Selmo Corso in a custom colour offers the rich texture of standard brick while opting for a sleeker, modern quality in the uniqueness of the shape.

02

Buderim House

At its 145 metre elevation above sea level, Buderim House commands sweeping views of the bushland to the north and the expansive coastal panoramas to the east. Designed to immerse its occupants in the natural light, colours, and textures of the Sunshine Coast, the home harmonises materiality with architecture to frame these vistas. The robust yet timeless materiality of the Bowral Bricks Bowral 76 in Simmental Silver, used both internally and externally, creates a minimal yet timeless backdrop to the natural hues of the distinct geographical location. Seamlessly blending the indoor-outdoor realms together and finding solace in the balance of openness and retreat, the residence is an exemplary instance of how brickwork can elevate a coastal lifestyle.

Not a Motel

Infused with the essence of mid-century modern design and the sun-drenched charm of Palm Springs living, Not a Hotel is a vibrant retreat on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula that channels the carefree spirit of California’s coastal This holiday home reimagines the classic “Aussie beach shack” with a retro twist reminiscent of a Palm Springs motel, as noted by Brett Ward, General Manager of International Marketing at Brickworks Building Products. Bowral Bricks 76 in Chillingham White set the tone for the home’s relaxed, coastal character, wrapping around the outdoor shower and framing the sunken lounge in the shared living space. The design celebrates colour, form, and the timeless appeal of dynamic brickwork, delivering a joyful, nostalgic escape that feels like a blast from the past.
