Bowral Bricks Chillingham White 50

Set against rolling pastures and the deep blues of the New South Wales South Coast, the South Coast Beach House rises as a sculptural, asymmetrical form that defies convention. Conceived as an intergenerational retreat, the two‑level residence unfolds in distinct geometric volumes, each with its own quiet personality. Its presence is gentle yet unmistakable, an architectural gesture that reinterprets timber, brick and concrete with a playful fluidity reminiscent of the waves and the undulating farmland that surround its form.

The home's façade features extensive use of Bowral Bricks Bowral 50 in Chillingham White, harmonising with the home’s interior palette of brick and concrete. Outside, the long, textured brick presents a rustic character; inside, it becomes a refined companion to expanses of exposed raw concrete. Geometry takes on expressive form through the home’s copper‑clad roof, shaped to mirror the waves rolling toward the shore and shifting angles from front to rear. Neutral hues mix with bright pops of colour. From stark red joinery, electric blue features and soft yellow lounges, the expression of tone and how it plays off the asymmetrical concrete features and neutral use of brick.

Project architect Daniel Weber notes that the home is “very much a building dictated by its constraints,” needing to accommodate an extended family while still feeling intimate and practical for the couple who plan to live there permanently. Every detail has been thoughtfully resolved: brass fixtures respond to the corrosive coastal environment, stone floors warmed with electric heating establish comfort and ambience, and a discreetly integrated solar array supports the home’s sustainability. How each material used responds to the surrounding varying environment was an integral point of focus, and critical to the success of the construction.
