inDETAIL with Anthony Gill, Anthony Gill Architects – Hobart
Brickworks is excited for the return of the inDETAIL Speaker Series.
Anthony Gill Architects was established in 2007 by Anthony Gill.
Since then, the office has completed several award winning residential and commercial projects of various scales.
The office’s early housing projects were typically attached and semi-detached dwellings within the inner city suburbs of Sydney. These projects demanded the reworking of existing buildings to create spaces suited to a more modern life. The provision of further density was usually required—an extra bedroom, a larger family bathroom, a small courtyard garden.
The tight budgets associated with these projects quickly clarified the firm’s strengths. The office has gained a reputation for carefully planned spaces that are highly efficient and cost effective while remaining generous for occupants. A focus on robust material selection ensures each project’s longevity.
In recent years their projects have become more diverse in terms of site and budget, giving them a chance to test different spatial ideas and strategies. The office has completed a series of larger detached houses, and is currently working on dwellings in the suburbs of Darlinghurst, North Bondi, Woolwich, Ultimo, Coogee and Paddington, as well as a series of commercial projects.
Their early preoccupations remain steadfast. They believe that a sense of economy is fundamental to the success and longevity of any housing project. They apply this belief throughout their design process in a holistic way; floor plans are reduced to what is necessary and materials are chosen to age well and contribute positively to their context, improving with time.
This event will be hosted by Stephen Varady, architect and collaborator, who shares Brickworks passion for architecture, design and innovation.
We look forward to welcoming you to Brickworks Design Studio Hobart for a night of networking and insightful architecture shared with like-minded people over drinks and canapés.
