inDETAIL with Liz Walsh and Alex Nielsen, So. Architecture – Melbourne

Brickworks is excited for the return of the inDETAIL Speaker Series.

So. Architecture is a Tasmanian studio founded in 2023 by Liz Walsh and Alex Nielsen. So. strives to interrogate architectural practice and product to craft enriching and joyful spatial experiences.

So., an acronym for Studio of. is deliberately ambiguous and inquisitive. Imbued with opportunity, the title speaks to So. Architecture’s desire to take a broad approach to professional practice. So. in both name and nature allows for openness and agility to adapt to tangential shifts and seize opportunities across scales, typologies, locations and disciplines - Studio of. furniture, Studio of. ideas, Studio of. light… So. many opportunities!

So. Architecture is formed around the following principles, So. grounded: to acknowledge that all buildings are embedded within larger cultural and physical landscapes, So. sublime: to create beauty and joy, So. strategic: to apply conceptual logic to solve architecture problems, So. experimental: to push parameters and test assumptions, So. robust: to embed projects with physical longevity and ideological flexibility to contribute to a more sustainable future and perhaps most importantly So. slow to acknowledge that all good things take the time they need.

So. Architecture has received a number of state and national awards for #TheBarnTAS, #TheBaeTAS and Harriet’s House including the Nicholas Murcutt National Award for Small Project Architecture, the Houses Apartment of the Year Award and the Tasmanian Medal. So. Architecture has been widely published and profiled in both print and online publications including Architecture Australia, Houses Magazine, The Australian Mansion Magazine and The Local Project .

This event will be hosted by Daniel Moore, Director of Open Creative Studio and the Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Chapter.

We look forward to welcoming you to Brickworks Design Studio Melbourne for a night of networking and insightful architecture shared with like-minded people over drinks and canapés.
