We’re delighted to welcome you to an inspiring and very special evening of conversation and creativity, where we’ll hear from two of Australia’s most respected voices in design, Stephen Varady and Robert Nation.
In a special format, they’ll be interviewed by Albert Mo and Hannah Tribe, who will guide us through the diverse and compelling journeys that have shaped their careers, from early inspirations to bold achievements.
This event will honour the two revered, generous, and legendary architects, and is a celebration of design excellence and the stories behind it.

Stephen Varady is an award winning, innovative and respected Australian architect, writer competition advisor and educator. He has designed projects in Australia and overseas, and run some of the most successful architecture competitions in Australia.
Stephen is an architecture writer, photographer and advocate for design excellence, with his writings published extensively in Australia and overseas. Stephen’s projects have also been published in Australia and overseas and included in exhibitions in Berlin in 2007 and the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2008. Stephen has received a number of RAIA awards, the Dulux Colour Award Grand Prix and the Belle House of the Year Award. He was also Creative Director for the 2006 RAIA National Architecture Conference.
Stephen has been an inspiring and enthusiastic lecturer and tutor in architecture, interior design and professional practice since 1985 in architecture and design schools at Sydney University, University of New South Wales, University of Technology Sydney, University of Newcastle and RMIT, and has lectured extensively around the world. Stephen has also been the curator of the Australian and International Brickworks Architecture Speaker Series since 2015.

After completing his Master’s Degree in Urban Design in Toronto in 1972, Robert led architectural practices across Hobart, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Sydney, Dubai, Shanghai, New York, and back to Sydney over a career spanning more than 50 years. His roles as Design Principal and Urban Designer involved major, complex projects including new cities, universities, hospitals, airports, transport hubs, mixed-use developments, and hotels, always driven by design excellence, sustainability, and economic success.
Notable achievements include winning design submissions for the Bangkok Sky Train System, Bangkok’s second airport (with Foster + Partners), and the UNIMAS University master plan in East Malaysia. As Design Director for the Barangaroo Delivery Authority, Robert oversaw a $10+ billion urban renewal project, collaborating with world-renowned firms such as RSHP, Renzo Piano, Wilkinson Eyre, and Arup.
Beyond practice, Robert has chaired and served on juries for major design competitions and represented Australia at international architectural congresses. Between 2005-06 Robert was National RAIA President, where he initiated the RAIA’s commitment to create a regular Australian Exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale. His work has received numerous design awards and reflects a lifelong commitment to thoughtful, high-impact architecture.

Albert Mo is the founding director of Albert Mo Architects (AMoA), a firm he established in 2024. With a passion for contemporary residential design, Albert is known for his work that explores new modes of design centered around sensory experiences. He creates spaces that are not only functional but also emotionally resonant.
On a practice level, Albert is redefining the traditional architectural model. Instead of building a large firm, he is committed to fostering a collaborative and creative environment. By working with a network of architects and designers, Albert and his team are able to take on and deliver much larger projects that are typically beyond the scope of smaller practices. This innovative approach is just the beginning for AMoA.

Hannah Tribe is the Principal of Tribe Studio Architects. Established in 2003, Tribe Studio is recognised for design excellence in its built and conceptual work in residential and urban design, education, commercial, heritage, installation and interiors. Hannah is an energetic and innovative designer and leader, who works across all scales from city planning to detailed design.
Hannah has taught at the University of Sydney, UTS and UNSW. She has tutored in design and lectured in design and design communications. She has sat on the NSW Chapter Council of the Australian Institute of Architects.
She has been an invited juror on awards panels, including the Australian Institute of Architects Awards and the IDEA Awards and the Houses Awards. In 2020 she curated the Sydney Architecture Symposium, and she sits on the NSW State Design Review Panel (SDRP) and the NSW Health Infrastructure SDRP.
