Caulfield Park in inner-eastern Melbourne is widely regarded as the area’s centrepiece. The new pavilion and community room complex describes a “flattened boomerang” shape and has a structure combining steel and timber with a slab-on-ground and a post-tensioned floor slab. The internal walls are concrete masonry blocks and the upper level is clad in aluminium panels.

The ground-level brickwork of Austral Bricks Elements Zinc semi-glazed bricks firmly anchors the base of the building and creates a neutral backdrop for the greenery and timber elements. The western wall leading to the main entrance is spotted with Austral Bricks Burlesque high-gloss bricks in Lively White and Chilling Black.

The white bricks in particular help to break down the walling mass. The same bricks also highlight the toilet entrance on the south-western corner, making it highly visible to passersby.

“Burlesque Lively White is a nice brick, it’s glossy, fresh and clean,” commends David Newstead, principal of Mantric Architecture.
