Every Wyer & Co. landscape is a unique response to people and place. We consider the environment, ecologies, and what has come before, balanced with a vision of what will come after —how the space will be utilised more beautifully, or more effectively, to gather, dwell, entertain or retreat.

Where do you see the future of Landscape Design going, or are you noticing any particular movements or changes within the sphere?

The industry, like a garden, is constantly evolving with landscape and architecture now thought to hold equal importance. Over the last 18 months however we’ve certainly noticed a dramatic shift in the way people wish to use and experience their gardens. Requests for outdoor dining and entertaining facilities with resort-like amenities are increasingly popular.

Many of your projects are abundant with a variety of different plants and greenery. How important do you think biodiversity is in both residential and commercial spaces?

Biodiversity is central to the success of any garden design. To every landscape we apply a deep knowledge of horticulture and ecologies, as well as an understanding of the Australian lifestyle and climate. The challenge lies in specifying a plant palette that is both appropriate and cohesive.

How important is utilizing the existing natural infrastructure of an outdoor space? I noticed in your gorgeous Boulder House project that you took that as a feature of the home’s design?

A well—designed garden should sit comfortably within its environment, and the sandstone boulder at Boulder House is a great example of how a design can incorporate and enhance the existing natural infrastructure. Over time, this beautiful natural element has become the keystone for the entire garden design, informing structural and material decisions alike.

How and when did you realise your passion for Landscape Design? How did you get your start in the industry?

My career began as a structural landscaper over 20-years-ago, the turning point, however, came about in my early 20s when I was fortunate enough to work alongside Will Dangar. His restrained, sophisticated approach to landscape design inspired me to work within the space.

What was the motivation for starting Wyer & Co?

Wyer & Co is a collective of likeminded individuals committed to a singular vision, to design and deliver exceptional gardens. My motivation was to gather the resources necessary to facilitate this, but over time it has become about relationships and seeing the way our gardens complement or enhance the clients’ lifestyle. I also enjoy giving people opportunity, watching them grow and develop their own skill.
