Unveiled: The 2022 Houses Awards Shortlist is Here

With the esteemed awards night only a month away, take a look at this year’s shortlisted projects.

The 2022 Houses Awards applauds Australia’s most outstanding residential design, with entries reflecting the significant contribution local architects and designers have made to enhance the way we live. Awarding excellence in nine categories, with the best house receiving the prime award of Australian House of the Year, this prestigious event is one of the country’s most recognised accomplishments for residential work. 

This year’s esteemed panel of judges include Clare Cousins; Director of Clare Cousins Architects, Matthew Eagle; Director of ME, Alexa Kempton; Editor of Houses Magazine, Isabelle Toland; Co-founder of Aileen Sage Architects and Kieran Wong; Co-founder of The Fulcrum Agency. As well as Heritage advisor Helen Lardner; Director of HLCD, and Sustainability Advisor, Clare Parry; Sustainability Manager, Development Victoria. 

The awards span ten categories: New House under 200 square metres, New House over 200 square metres, House Alteration and Addition under 200 square metres, House Alteration and Addition over 200 square metres, Apartment or Unit, Garden or Landscape, Sustainability, House in a Heritage Context, Emerging Architecture Practice and the illustrious Australian House of the Year Award. 

The high calibre of projects this year is a noteworthy feat of the design community’s innovative and inspired approach to the new, multifaceted residence. 

Reflecting on the noteworthy success of past awards, this event is a beloved, annual highlight of the design calendar. Houses Awards seeks the country’s best and brightest creative minds and their studios, big and small, for their continuing contribution to the evolving landscape of the Australian architecture and design community. 

The winners will be announced at the gala event on Friday 29 July at the State Library of Victoria. For now, take a look at this year’s impressive shortlist, featuring some of the most inspiring projects to date.
